Today, the Uniontown Fire Department seized the opportunity presented by the favorable weather to conduct a crucial training exercise involving a dry hydrant. A dry hydrant is an essential firefighting tool, consisting of a non-pressurized pipe system that’s installed in a static water source like a lake or pond. This setup allows firefighters to efficiently draw water directly into a fire truck by drafting.
During the exercise, our team practiced connecting to the dry hydrant and using the fire truck’s pump to draft water. We successfully flowed water through the truck and utilized our deck gun to return it back into the pond. This practice is not only a test of our equipment but also enhances our firefighters’ skills in handling rural firefighting resources where municipal water supply may be unavailable.
This training is invaluable as it ensures our crew is prepared to quickly and effectively set up water supply operations during actual fire emergencies. Mastery of using a dry hydrant increases our ability to protect the community, particularly in areas where access to traditional fire hydrants is limited.
We are committed to regular training sessions like these to maintain our readiness and efficiency, ensuring the highest level of service to our community.
